1956-2011

Mary “Kim” Fries, associate professor of education, died on September 12, 2011, after a courageous, lengthy battle with cancer. Kim held a BA and MEd from the University of South Florida, a CAS from Harvard, and a Ph.D. from Boston College. She joined the UNH faculty in 2002. Kim’s nationally-recognized scholarship focused on practices and policies in teacher education; however, her strongest impact was with interns and teachers in area schools. She was a tireless advocate for NH teachers and schools. Students have described her as a passionate teacher who brought humor and personality to her courses. Colleagues will miss her smile, quick wit, and genuine kindness.

There will be a memorial service at the Boston College Alumni House, 825 Centre Street, Newton, Massachusetts on Friday, September 16, at 7 p.m. Friends and colleagues are invited to attend.

A memorial book will be available in the Education Department Office all week for leaving remembrances, photographs, or notes. The book will be presented to Kim’s family at the service on Friday.
