Volunteer experience in Nicaragua leads to scholarship award

Hanna LaRochelle in Nicarague

Sophomore sociology major Hanna LaRochelle recently won a scholarship in a competition held by the National Association of College Stores (NACS) during their National Student Day, a day celebrating and promoting social responsibility by college students.

More than 170 college students from across North America and Canada submitted stories of their volunteer work. The stories were then voted on publicly, and the three most popular received scholarships.

LaRochelle won third place with 1,033 votes and was awarded  $1,000 for Nicaragua, a story that explains how she volunteered abroad with the Fabretto Children’s Foundation in Nicaragua.
